I sprayed a small amount of catnip spray into the pad and showed her it once. After that she sought it out herself. I wish I could find one that isn’t so long/wide that would fit the smaller windows in our home so she can follow the sun throughout the day.
So as you can see, I have the window shelf as well. Installed properly (and reinstalled properly when moved, which I have done), these two items are absolutely wonderful. I always make sure the windows are cleaned VERY well and the suction cups are heated properly with HOT water for two minutes. I have two cats (a growing orange kitten and a full size 16lb house panther) and they both hit these at full speed, jumping in and out. I have also seen both of them lying on the shelf together. They have never budged from their positions.
I have to believe that issues with them coming off are from improper installation (windows not properly cleaned, suction cups not correctly prepped).
If your cats love being in the windows, give these a try. Completely worth the investment for happy furbabies! :)
I included a photo of my cats’ sad lives before they owned window seats.
Now, they each have an “assigned” seat. They literally sleep in these every night. Just the other day, I walked in and found them BOTH sharing one, which was the cutest thing ever.
Just FYI they weigh approximately 25 pounds together. I would say I have them about 3 feet off the floor. My heavier/stronger cat jumps directly from the floor into the seat and it doesn’t budge. My smaller cat prefers to jump onto something else before entering his seat.
I truly was skeptical, but now I don’t know how I went so long without these seats!!
The first time I put her in there, she was confused. And then, curious... And then immediately laid down happily and claimed the spot as a favorite. She uses my desk (sometimes from a keyboard, unfortunately) as a jumping off point to get up there, but that's probably a good testament for its ability to stay firmly secured to the window. She's about 11 lbs, and it's like it was made just for her.
I was worried she'd be uncomfortable, but it's somewhat flexible plastic (?) and molds well to her, but as we all know, cats are a liquid anyways, so I probably didn't have to worry about it.
To sum up: happy with the purchase and will probably buy more for other rooms in the house.
YOU yes you, may need to follow the instructions but I didn’t need to. Just say’n.
Anyway I Put him in a few times and he’d kinda sniff it out then he’d bounce.
Fast forward 2 weeks and it’s his FAVORITE place to be!!
At first I was like ‘he’s way to big for this thing’ and ‘parts’ do occasionally hangout but like most cats he loves being cozied up in it. He’s an average sized male cat. Not tiny, skinny or fat, average.
Sooooo my opinion so far is 5 stars!! If it doesn’t hold up I’ll update but 2 weeks in and we love it!
I gave it about an hour before letting Little Sir investigate it. He settled right in immediately. And so far, it has held him, and handles his ungraceful entrances and exits. Little Sir is only about 6 lbs.
I also like this cubby shelf because it doesn't bump out really far, so I can close the curtains when I need to.
So far so good.
do-spoil my cat even more than he already is!
Setting this up is straightforward (I highly recommend cleaning the window and cups before use). It comes with instructions and just like that it is suctioned to the window. It also came with a pillow of sorts to cushion the bottom. My cat loves this so much and we can see him getting a lot of use from it!
I had no problems with the suction cups and I actually move two of the suction cups often (the bottom and one side, to store it vertically) when I need to open the window all the way. I did soak them in hot water originally, but found they stick just fine without re-soaking them. Haven't had them pop off during use yet, although I will try to keep them clean as they get moved so much. The third cup has been stuck on for a couple weeks now and hasn't budged.
TLDR: Perfect for my 6lb cat, and can be moved often without problems. May not be as sturdy to move so much for a heavy cat.
The only thing I wish I would have done is measure my windows. I have only 1 window in my house that the seat actually fits in. I also had to had in a piece of leftover fleece because the padding that came with it is comfortable but the material is scratchy.
My cat weighs 13 pounds and this holds him with ease. It has never fallen and he spends hours watching out the window and napping. I wish it was just a little smaller so I can put him in different windows but that could just be my house.
She's always been a bit weird with trying new furniture. She's had this a few days and still won't jump in on her own (she'll get there) but will lounge for a while when plopped in it. She loves the sun so I stuck this to the sunniest window.
Initially, one of the cups kept popping off the window. Then I found the small instructions paper that I'd somehow missed. Since soaking in hot water, those things are now stuck to the window. Won't budge. Definitely follow instructions.
The cushion inside is squishy. The texture is rough, which I think helps trap shedding hair. Let's face it, unless your cat is hairless, I highly doubt the texture bothers it. Lucy kneads her biscuits and lays out to relax.
So far, all good.
